The goal of the programs for Older Texans is to promote lifelong independence and provide alternatives in long term care options through a wide variety of services. The Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Texas (AAASET) is part of a network of 28 Area Agencies on Aging across the state and one of more than 670 nationwide. Serving as an advocate for issues, services and concerns to older Southeast Texans, AAASET provides subcontracted services such as congregate and home-delivered meals and transportation through community subcontractors. AAASET provides direct services to seniors through our LinkAGE Access and Assistance programs. These programs are comprehensively discussed under the AAA Service heading on the menu bar.

Programs are funded in part by local contributions, assessments from city and county governments, state funding from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services and the Texas Information and Referral Network and federal funds through the Administration on Aging. The AAASET is sponsored locally by the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission.

The Regional Council on Aging is the advisory council to the AAASET. This strong advocacy and planning council is comprised of Southeast Texans appointed by local Mayors and County Judges. Meetings are open to the public; additional input is always welcome. Public input is always forwarded to local members of the Texas Silver Haired Legislature for consideration in the next Silver Haired Legislative session.

INFORMATION AND REFERRAL

"Thank you, you are the first one to listen to me."

"I’ve been on the phone all day and you are the first one to give me information that’s going to help me."

"You just made my day and you did it so quick!"

OMBUDSMAN

An 85 year old resident, who is a victim of Parkinson Disease, was very unhappy.  We looked into what her interests were prior to her disability and discovered she had quilted all her life.  The volunteer brought her several quilting  magazines and she was thrilled.  She was quoted "Thank you, before you started visiting here no one cared to ask what I like to do".   (She now looks at the quilting magazines for hours upon hours.)
