The Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Texas’s Benefits Counseling Program is setup to inform all older Texans (age 60+) and those with disabilities (of any age) who are Medicare eligible, and legal rights pursuant to the provisions of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, and all relevant rules and regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services and the Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Texas.

 
Confidentiality

All client information obtained in the course of benefits counselor duties will be treated as confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside the Legal Assistance program without consent.

Clients have the right to remain anonymous throughout the counseling process. A client may sign a "consent to release" form for appeal and representation cases when the counselor acts on behalf of the client, at the client’s request.

The following Entitlements Are:

  • Social Security, Social Security Disability, Social Security Supplement (SSI)
  • Medicare Part A and Part B
  • Supplement Insurance to pay the 20% that Medicare does not cover
  • State programs (QMB, SLMB, Q1-1). If eligible for QMB the state will cover the 20% deductible and the Medicare Part B premium. The other two programs pay only the Medicare Part B premium.
  • Long term and other health insurance
  • Insurance and consumer fraud
