Government Resources

U.S. Administration on Aging
Includes information on, and links to many services for elders, as well as detailed information on the proposed federal National Family Caregiver Support Program. An excellent resource for seniors and families.

The US Government’s official site for anyone with Medicare. Includes aspects of health aging and nursing home comparison information.

Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services
Provides information and focus upon aging services, resources, benefits, new information, aging policy and information, nursing home/long term care information, and provides various documents and publications for review.

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a)
This is the umbrella organization for our nation's 655 area agencies on aging (AAAs) and the representative body in Washington, D.C., for the interests of 220 Title VI Native American aging programs. Through its presence in Washington, n4a advocates on behalf of the local aging agencies to ensure that needed resources and support services are available to older Americans.

Long-term Care Regulatory (LTCR)
A program within the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services that provides federal certification for health care facilities participating in the Medicaid and Medicare programs, state licensure for facilities providing licensed health care services, and licensure of home and community support services agencies that provide home health, personal assistance, and hospice services.

The Eldercare Locator
A public service of the U.S. Administration on Aging, is a nationwide directory assistance service providing support resources for older adults, their families and caregivers.

Excellent site provides information for older adult, links to other sites, recent study and survey information, and information on consumer protection, education and training, health, legislation, retirement planners, seniors and computers and available services.

Legal Resources

The America Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Legal Problems of the Elderly Offers information addressing the legal aspects of planning for incapacity and introducing durable and medical powers of attorney, living wills and trusts, booklets on Medigap insurance, advance medical directives and housing rights of older persons.

The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA)
Provides a national registry of attorneys specializing in elder law and publishes brochures on legal issues affecting older adults. NAELA does not provide referrals to individual attorneys.

The National Senior Citizens Law Center
Provides a clearinghouse of information on legal problems of older adults covering such issues as Social Security, age discrimination, pension plans, Medicaid, Medicare, nursing homes and consumer products. The Center also provides free services including consulting and referrals to other sources. A variety of free documents are available.

The National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers (GCM)
This organization has developed a Geriatric Care Managers Resource Guide and Directory to assist consumers in finding qualified geriatric care managers. The list included in the directory is not an exhaustive listing of all the geriatric care managers throughout the country, but rather a listing of care managers who belong to GCM.

The Texas Cancer Data Center (TCDC)
Provides information on health professionals, health facilities, demographics and statistics, and community resources via the Internet at no charge. TCDC is an information service, funded by the Texas Cancer Council, dedicated to empowering Texans with the knowledge needed to reduce the human and economic impact of cancer.

Helps thousands of people every day to find programs for seniors that may pay for some of their costs of prescription drugs, health care, utilities, and other essential items or services. This service states that it is free of charge and confidential. Participants may choose to complete a questionnaire to find programs that can assist you or others.
